The Wall Street Journal reports via Fox News:
All 48 of Japan’s nuclear-power plants are currently offline…..Imported natural gas is filling some of the gap, but it is costly…..Japan’s coal use has already been edging higher since the Fukushima accident…..
While Japan’s government might be wanting to continue (aka “restart”) nuclear power plant operations, two of Japan’s largest electric power companies, Kyushu Electric Power Co. and Tokyo Electric Power Co. are looking to increase the use of coal-fired power.
If Kyushu Electric or TEPCO get the contracts they are aiming for, what effect will this have upon the environment?
It is not an easy decision to make – for Japan, or for the rest of the world.
